THERMAL PROTECTION
Sting-Guard is made from neoprene is it is an ideal alternative to a full-face mask. When combined with the divers mask and neoprene hood it complements the diver by insulating the only exposed area of the divers face from the surrounding elements in this case the cold water. Sting-Guard works by trapping a thin layer of water between it and the divers face which quickly heats up the same as a conventional neoprene wet suit would making scuba diving in cold water or scuba diving under ice a pleasure.
- Scuba diving in cold water has three main effects on divers physical body.
- Cooling of the outer tissues will impair tactile sensitivity and thus decrease muscle power.
- Cooling of the inner core of the body, and so the central nervous system impairing mental performance.
- The cold imposes a "distraction effect " whereby the perceived threat of cold interferes with diver performance.
Favoured by polar ice divers for its simplicity and added protection, Sting-Guard has proven its self time and time again in the field it is simple to use and does not impair mask clearing. Sting-Guard is easily removed without visually impairing the scuba diver, unlike all full face masks, which have both regulator and mask integrated as one unit.
